Whereas it is not good to be ignorant of any type of disease, it is really important to know about diabetes, its causes, symptoms, and how to treat a diabetic patient. Indeed, there are many things to know about diabetes. The knowledge thus acquired is helpful on general terms and in common circumstances.
To begin with, we have three types of diabetes; type 1, type 2 and gestational.
The first type, type 1 diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes. This is a situation by which a person's pancreas does not produce insulin. Insulin is a type of hormone vital for the control of the sugar level in the blood. Since this disease is not caused by excessive intake of sugar, there is no method of preventing it. So, reduction of sugar intake is not the solution since the problem arises from the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin.Even though type 1 diabetes is incurable, it is containable if insulin is taken as prescribed by the physician.
The second diabetes type which is type 2 could result from the inability of the patient's body to use the insulin properly. This condition is containable and preventable by taking less of sugary and sweet foods.
The third, gestational diabetes is that which occurs during pregnancy. This type is only explained by the hormonal changes in the woman's body during pregnancy. The causes are yet to be known.
There is no mild diabetes. It's either you have it or not. If you are not sure, the best bet is to see your doctor. The antidote is insulin. It doesn't cure it as stated earlier. It helps to manage the sugar level in the blood.
The common question is, can diabetic patients take sugar or carbohydrate? Yes, because they need sugar for energy. The only thing is they must take the prescribed insulin regularly to ensure that the sugar is absorbed by the body and does not stay in the blood. One third of diabetic patients don't have the regular symptoms so it is good to go for blood test if you are not sure you are diabetic.
Below are the vitamins and minerals you need as insulin.
You need zinc, chromium, vitamin B8, vanadium, manganese, vitamin B1. You can derive these from the following:
Oysters, red meat, poultry, these give you zinc. Broccoli, grape juice, garlic, eggs, sardines, soya beans, beef liver, black pepper, corn, olives, olive oil, etc
